Friends Leaders to be at City Civics Day

Friends is excited to present a "How To" session on improving the Chicago-Calumet River system at the inaugural City Civics Day on November 4. Featuring seminars, workshops and panels with top city officials and community voices, attendees at the free, all-day event can explore how to effect positive change through public engagement, learn how to be an effective neighborhood leader, and be part of the decision-making process for local or citywide improvement.

Friends’ Becky Lyons, director of equity and engagement, and Annette Anderson, volunteer, events, and canoe program manager, will host a session entitled “How to Improve Chicago’s Rivers” where they will discuss river history, challenges and opportunities, as well as ways to get involved. Lyons and Anderson will share Friends’ advocacy and stewardship efforts, from individual and community involvement to company and government policies and actions, that all serve to foster a blue-green corridor vision for the Chicago-Calumet River system.
